Title: Video Card
Post by: chasmills on November 25, 2013, 05:11:07 PM
I regret to say that I have been forced to slow down and maybe stop rendering with my equipment. The Nividia card which I have is very unstable, and is overheating the entire unit. I have been cautioned by "techno-geeks" that I am lucky that I didn't actually catch it on fire. I am seeking a different kit to render with, but a laptop and a Nividia card in a laptop is unsatisfactory, at least the 3GB card I have has proven to be. It ceases responding and screen goes black, and gets extremely hot. I have pushed hundreds of renders through it.

Hi Chas, the card is unlikely to be the problem, a more likely culprit is the coolant ability of the laptop itself.  There are a number of applications available to deal with cooling issues by modifying the temperature at which the fan(s) cut in and how long for.  Heat soak in a laptop is something that is not likely to be cured for laptops for quite a while.  My graphic card is a 1gig item but I have 16gig of ram, it is highly unlikely that renditioner will push your card anywhere near its ability.

I spoke with tech support and yes you are right I need to get an external double fan cooling pad. Thanks for the response. Happy rendering!
