Brick Walls appearance.

I have been playing around with brick walls and the conclusion I have arrived at is they are a pain.

Improving the appearance of a brick wall is a trial and error process of altering the position of the brick texture to prevent mortar from appearing at the edge of a wall, you never see it in the real world do you.  Something that helps with the appearance is to make the outer faces of the wall a group and to soften the edges/corners of the 'walls'.  The effect is not perfect but is improved.  Better brick textures helps further.  Go to http://www.brick.com/ for a brick design program to help with that.

Hi Mike,

These are samples of TFPlan Brick patterns on Walls and Walks. In general the program tiles the brick patteren from the center of the wall out, so each wall starts and finishes with a partial brick.

I did resize some of the brick patterns in the program so all the various brick patterns would be similar in height. Some are set to 4'x4' jpg by default, others 14" x 14" by default / etc.  So I just eyeballed and try to get them all close to matching. That is a texture sizing situation NOT a program error.

As you can see, all of the textures imported exactly as they were displayed in TFPlan.

There is an option in TPlan to shift the texture 'off center'. I will check when I have time and see how shifting the texture is handled on import to IDX.

Model scales perfectly when "Option' on import is set to mm  (milimeters).

Hi Mike,

In the previous example the Brick on the furthers left wall, starts and ends with mortar showing.

I just went into the materials edit mode, unlock the aspect and changed the texture size from 1" to 1.05 " and it tiled OK.  (Maybe 1.08 would have been better)

Large images attached so you can see the change.

Hi Mike,

I tested a walk with pavers. On an angle, I rotated the texture 31 deg and shifted it slightly to the left in TurboFloorPlan. All those settings imported to IDX OK.
