Lock Up

Occasionally I will lock up in Sketchup, many times when exiting Renditioner. Here is a screenshot of
what I see. I have to close and reopen sveral times, and I have lost some drawings which became
permanently frozen. Any ideas?

Looks like a graphic card issue but I am not sure, I will ask for another opinion and get back to you.

Hello,
I had the same problem in the past.
It was the graphics card. not suitable.
Now I have installed Nvidia Quadro and everything works fine.

Thanks again, my graphic card has been unstable a couple times so I am sure that is the issue. It is a NVIDIA GE FORCE 555M 3GB, but in a laptop.
I have learned that if I don't carry more than 7 MB (components included) into my render attempt it is more stable. My system seems to have an issue with files that are say 13 MB. Once in Renditioner it renders fine, it may be an issue with Sketchup and my equipment.

In SU you can try turning off Hardware Accleration.   However your navigation in SU may take a hit.

Maybe I push SU 8 too hard. Is there a megabyte threshold? Sometimes when I have excessive amount of components and detail it seems to be a cause of my problem.

The method of import used by renditioner is counter intuitive for those of us used to the sketchup component method of memory management.  Instancing is another term for the same thing.  At the moment renditioner will explode ALL groups and components which is why the file size is so different to the skp.  Essentially, instead of using the component as a repeat, each one is imported and rendered seperately.  This means a model with many components will run into THE WALL.  Instancing is on the cards for future versions, not sure when though.  more RAM may help but to be honest, this will not be a panacea until 64 bit and instancing arrive.  I wish I could tell you more but when I do know, I will.

If I have an entire building, full of furniture components and details drawn and saved as components, and I am rendering just one interior scene does Renditioner calculate for all the model, instead of just the scene I have on my screen? That would explain why it takes so long to render sometimes. Perhaps I need to pre-plan my fixtures carefully and just set up the scene I wish to render. Exterior renders are much less cluttered with components and are not so much of a problem, but excessive detailing across the whole building interior seems to be related to my "crash", and also I still have version 8. Skp files exceeding 10 mb, and approaching 20 mb have been common for me, but when I work at the 5 to 7 mb range the problem is controlled. Thanks.

Everything in the model is exported so all compoments.  If I have a model that big I save 'blocks' so that I can render interiors from one model and exteriors from another.  Depending on rooms and levels you might want to break the blocks down further.
