The latest version of Renditioner for SU2014
does not read images and textures "png" imported into SU.
unnerves ...

Sorry for the delay. Here is what LW has told me after they spent considerable time investigating.


The behaviour observed is as follows:
•   When Importing an image file, the following types will work:
o   TIFF that do not use LZW compression
•   When Importing an email file, the following types do not work:
o   BMP, PNG, JPG, TGA
(These do not work because SketchUp writes them out as TIFF files using LZW compression.)

•   When applying a texture as a material, the following types work:
o   BMP, JPG, TGA, TIFF that do not use LZW compression
•   When applying a texture as a material, the following types do not work:
o   PNG
(PNG files are converted into TIFFs using the TextureWriter because SketchUp doesn’t support writing out PNG files).

Thanks for the info.
But what good is a renderer if it does not solve the technical problems automatically?
There are two useful formats for importing images: JPG and PNG (transparency).
Below I attach tests with Renditioner and another renderer that has not
problems.
Given that Renditioner has a cost, it is hoped that developers resolve soon.

I am afraid the changes will not be made overnight and could take a while.  A real pity the sketchup team cannot talk properly with developers of software that runs 'around' sketchup.  I do not think many folk could get away with it but then sketchup is rather incestuous.

Hello. Just to give you a little information on this; we're looking in to fixing this however there is no simple solution. We're exploring two options, developing our engine to accept the specific TIFF file that SketchUp creates, and asking SketchUp to give us a different file format all together.

I just wanted to say that this case isn't dead! But there won't be any overnight solution as Mike said.
