I was looking at how I make my different surfaces and trying to work out where they were going off, I think it is something to do with sketchup and arcs,  Sketchup takes the curved surface way beyond the arcs used to make them so when you mirror and combine the two surfaces, the effect is a bit like cheeks with a crevasse between them.  Best to make anything you mirror as one piece then.  Take a look at the render and you can easily see where an arced surface is mirrored as opposed to a complete surface over both sides of the car.  Slow progress but some progress and with the 64 bit edition of sketchup easier than I had thought possible.

For your love of cars, We must absolutely find a free software
for the "wind tunnel".
I think some GURU, in SketchUcation can create a plugin
suitable: I think Fredo6. I will try to send him a request.

Thanks mate, I have looked at a few but found them to be very cranky in their style of operation.  Making solids from the vehicle components to name just one of the many procedures or hoops to go through.  One day perhaps it will be easier/simpler, especially with 64 bit sketchup.

Cleaned up the lines, especially around the rear corners.  Body is 4" wider now but has better intersection lines.  There will be a fillet between the 'A' pillar and the bonnet fillet and the faint line from the base of the 'A' pillar downwards will be a door crease and vanish.  Much happier with the rear corners now, they were quite frankly, horrible before.

The cleaner lines at the rear are more easily seen here, not happy about the 'noise' in the picture (the orange peel effect on the bodywork) but not sure how to go about consistently removing this yet.

Just in case you DO notice, the wheelarches have not been cut through the body sides yet.

I put a light source behind the lower grill to show it, not exactly perfect but better than the black hole that came before.....

A Caterham 7 with modified bodywork for race and track day fun.  Includes an undertray and front wing.

I have not yet cleaned up the secondary intake for low pressure cutouts but this is mostly finished.

A caterham with a coupe body, the body waists' towards the rear of the car over wide rear wheel arches for aerodynamic performance with a full undertray and diffuser.  11 feet long and a little over 5 feet wide 42 inches tall from the road.

I tidied up the rear of the chassis as it was all over the place line wise.  Much tighter control of lines and curves here.

Close to the final product, I think the last car I will be able to design for a while.  A top view shows the area rule and waisting for aerodynamic efficiency.
